Nasha review

A number of movies have depicted a brewing 'love story' between a young boy and an older woman and vice versa. NASHA is no different. This one marks the debut of Poonam Pandey, who has been in the news for varied reasons. Besides exuding heat, Poonam tries her level best to spell seduction with the capital 'S'.

NASHA has been made on a plot which has been the domain to many likeminded films like MERA NAM JOKER [1970], DOOSRA AADMI [1977], EK NAYI PAHELI [1984], MAYA MEMSAAB [1993], EK CHHOTISI LOVE STORY [2002], NISHABD [2007] and CHEENI KUM [2007], wherein a young boy/man falls for an older woman or vice versa. Even though the promotions of NASHA make the audience's expectation meter soar really high, expecting more of skin show in the process, director Amit Saxena serves an emotional tale instead of padding the narrative with steamy sequences.

NASHA tells the story of an 18-year-old boy [Shivam Patil], who falls hopelessly in love with a 25-year-old woman [Poonam Pandey]. Life is pretty normal for the teenager with flashy clothes, a pretty girl friend, the summer vacations and his gang of friends, who are up to some trick or the other. The moment Shivam sees Poonam, he not only falls for her charms, but also starts dreaming and fantasizing about her day and night. All of this eventually leads to a roller coaster ride of love getting entangled with lust and sprinkled with doses of jealousy and possessiveness.

With a film that's woven around such a plot, exploring myriad emotions, one expects more than a love story in films of this genre. While director Amit Saxena tries to explore every possible angle of growing up years in a teenager's life, the film suffers in its first half itself, but manages to pace up in the post-interval portions. Even though it ends on a conventional note, there's hardly any innovation that one can bring to this film considering the plot/theme of the film.

Come to think of it, the writing barely offers anything new to the spectator. One can't really blame the writer/s for the lack of novelty in the story as there's hardly anything that one can write in a film where the mainstay/focus is purely on skin show, which, incidentally, is limited too. However, the DoP captures not just the beauty of the scenic locales, but also human emotions justifiably. Besides, this one's more of a treatment film, with the effective background score enhancing and elevating a number of sequences.

Poonam Pandey needs to work really hard on her expressions and dialogue delivery. The surprise packet of the film, however, is Shivam, who appears supremely confident and has the potential to grow as an actor. He seems to be completely at ease before the camera. Vishal Bhonsle, as Poonam's boyfriend, is perfect. The seasoned actors who play Shivam's father and uncle are also natural. The director has beautifully captured their awkwardness and hesitations when they go to Poonam to enquire about her relationship with their child. The young actors playing Shivam's friends are self-assured.

On the whole, NASHA is more of an emotional love story than a film that rides on skin fest. An average fare!

OMG: Evelyn Sharma has been kissed!

It so happens that Prateik Babbar had fallen head-over-heels for the sparkling gal and planted a hot one on her lips, much before he consolidated his love for his lifetime companion.

Now now! Before jump to conclusions, let us tell you that this is the way Evelyn's role unfolds in the new Prateik starrer Issaq.

But more than her first on-screen kiss, Evelyn is a tad concerned about how she will look or be evaluated for her overall performance. "Issaq was the first movie I shot for. Since then I've honed my acting skills many times," she remarks.

"The actress in me evolved as I acted in films like Nautanki Saala and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani," says Evelyn and adds that she's a bit nervous about how people will judge her in Issaq.

But considering her career has been on a constant upswing, we don't think the gal as anything to worry about.

Coming up is yet another interesting character in Yaariyaan; the directorial debut of T-Series' head honcho Bhushan Kumar's wife Divya Kumar.

This followed by two more films she's learnt to have just tucked in her over-flowing kitty. 2013 is turning out to be quite a roller- coaster ride for the newbie.

Humaima Malick, the only girl Serial-Kisser wants!

Director Kunal Deshmukh and Emraan Hashmi are apparently at loggerheads over the choice of actress in their upcoming movie 'Shaatir'

Buzz doing the rounds is that Humaima Malick has been signed opposite Emraan Hashmi for Kunal Deshmukh's forthcoming film.

Turns out the makers are still looking for an actress. And if rumours are to be believed, apparently Emraan who was keen to have the Pakistani actress be cast opposite him much to Kunal's chagrin.

Says a source, `Kunal has been telling everyone that Emraan is keen on having Humaima as his co-star. Abhishek Bachchan reportedly walked out of the movie.

Kunal is not left with much choice but to decide with Emraan about the actress. Kunal has auditioned almost everyone possible he thinks will fit the role. `

Kunal says, `I liked Humaima's screen test. But we are also looking at new faces. ` The filmmaker also claims that Emraan did not push for Humaima.

While Emraan adds, `We are in the process of finalising a female lead for Shaatir. Though no one has been confirmed yet, the makers will make an announcement as soon as things get finalised. `

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starts reading scripts; has chosen a couple of them!

After making appearances at various international events the beautiful actor is now planning to get back to the grind of acting in movies

We all have seen how much weight Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has lost already. She may not be the toned and fab Sunehri from Dhoom:2 yet, but all that cellulite has started to melt away slowly and steadily. And we hear that the actor is working hard to get rid of those fatty deposits left over and, dear readers, it’s not been cakewalk for her. Ash has been sweating it out and looks like the results are totally paying off. The former Miss World is being showered with scripts – from offbeat ones to hardcore commercial concepts. But the choosy babe that she is, Mrs Bachchan has been extremely careful with her choices.
And although the rumour is that she has already made her pick, we pricked our ears up when we heard of Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali trying their luck. It seems the directors have approached the beauty queen to work on their films. We don’t know if Ash has given a green signal to these projects yet, but trust us to find out, sooner rather than later….

Has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan quit films?

For all those who have been waiting for the light-eyed beauty to make an announcement about acting, here’s some news…

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan does not believe in comebacks. Or so she says, loud and clear. Does this mean that this beauty will never return to the big screen, ever? Hold your horses, peeps – the actor who has been busy playing perfect yummy mummy in real life is in no hurry to return to 70mm….but she never left, she insists. While reports claim that Ash was approached for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar’s projects, the junior Mrs Bachchan is not letting this cat out of the bag. As she says, “It’s too early to talk about projects. Nothing has been finalised as yet.” Ash has been busy running around for her other work commitments and has signed on some very well paying endorsement deals; she is also decorating her new home in Dubai. But films…now that is a secret. And when someone asked the lady about her ‘comeback’, this is what she had to say: ‘I don’t believe in comebacks. When was I away from the industry that I have to make a comeback now? I was always involved in it, so there is no point in terming it as a ‘comeback’. Yes, I was enjoying a slight break with my daughter and I thoroughly loved it.’
For now we will just have to watch some of Aishwarya’s older hit films. At least until ARB comes back to us with news of her next film!
